AJ Styles appeared to be hurt (Picture: WWE)
WWE superstar AJ Styles has reportedly suffered a legitimate injury at an untelevised event.
The former world champion appeared to injury his ankle during Thursday night’s WWE Holiday Tour show at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania as he and his O.C. teammates Karl Anderson and Mia Yim were in action.
The trio picked up a win over Judgment Day rivals Finn Balor, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley, but there are some concerns over Styles’ condition after the bout.
Fan-shot footage on social media appears to show him being tended to at ringside, while a referee held up his hands in an ‘X’, a symbol used in wrestling when one of the performers is legitimately hurt.
Meanwhile, another photo shared on Twitter shows Styles sat on the ground by the steps appearing to hold his ankle.
Since then, PWInsider has reported that the injury is ‘100% legitimate’ and not part of a storyline for the live event.
While it’s ‘likely’ an ankle injury, the Phenomenal One is set to get it checked as soon as possible, and until that’s done it’s not known if or how long he will be missing from the ring.
Styles and WWE are yet to comment publicly on the incident, or a potential recovery time.
Fans are hoping for the best, particularly with WWE set to enter the biggest period of the year with the Royal Rumble fast approaching on January 28, which officially kicks off the Road to WrestleMania.
‘Hopefully he gets better before the Rumble comes,’ wrote one fan, while another added: ‘I hope AJ Styles heals up soon. That’s my G right there’.
A third person tweeted: ‘Hopefully soon we get positive news regarding this. I care so much about that man. 😭 Wishing him the best.’
It comes as WWE has a number of top stars out of action due to injury, including the likes of Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Robert Roode, Big E, Rick Boogs, Shotzi and Tommaso Ciampa.
