William Regal has officially left All Elite Wrestling (AEW) amid reports of a WWE comeback.
The British wrestling legend joined Tony Khan’s promotion in March after his shock departure from WWE at the beginning of the year, but now he is poised to return after confirming his time with AEW has come to an end.
In a statement on Twitter, he wrote: ‘Yesterday was my last official day with @AEW. I’d like to thank @TonyKhan, Megha and all the hard working crew.
‘Contrary to people who’ve never spoken to me or have their information from people who don’t know me or are trying to make themselves noticed, I had a lovely time working there and had a great time.
‘Lots of talented Wrestlers, and lovely people to work for.’
He also made a special mention of Blackpool Combat Club, which included Bryan Danielson (known to WWE fans as Daniel Bryan), Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose), Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro) and Wheeler Yuta.

He added: ‘To my fellow BCC members, it was a special, albeit brief few months but it cemented our already strong friendship.
‘To everyone there, thank you for welcoming me. Best wishes.’
His comments come after Khan confirmed earlier this month that Regal had asked for his release and would be leaving at the end of 2022 to work with his son in NXT.
Meanwhile, NXT boss Shawn Michaels has played coy on the situation given that Regal is still under contract with their rivals, but admitted they have ‘great respect’ for him and urged people to ‘stay tuned’.
The retired veteran wrestler hadn’t publicly addressed the situation directly until now, although he did take to Twitter amid various reports and comments to play down some speculation around the entire situation, including his potential role in WWE once he’s back.
He added: ‘Unless you hear it from me directly it is at best second hand information… Unless you hear it directly from ME it is either wrong or someone’s interpretation of what is really going on.
‘And that means EVERYTHING that is being said about me from every “source”. That goes for ANYONE SAYING they have spoken or know me. A still tongue keeps a wise head!’
