TRUMP SAYS US IS ‘LOCKED AND LOADED’ FOR POTENTIAL RESPONSE TO ATTACKS ON SAUDI OIL SITES
France 24 reports Trump has said the US was “locked and loaded” for a potential response to the attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities. And a senior official in the Trump administration said Iran is to blame. The President has authorised the U.S emergency oil stockpile to ensure stable supplies after the attack. “There is reason to believe that we know the culprit, are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, under what terms we would proceed!” Trump said on Twitter. HONG KONG REOPENS AFTER A VIOLENT WEEKEND OF CLASHES AND PROTESTS
Arab News says Hong Kong’s businesses and underground rail stations re-opened as usual on Monday morning. It comes after a violent Sunday clash that saw police fire cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters. The protesters blocked the roads and threw petrol bombs. Sunday’s clashes saw thousands of anti-government protesters engaging in a game of cat-and-mouse with the police. Many protesters dressed in black masks, caps and shades to obscure their identity. Police issued a statement early on Monday expressing “severe condemnation” after the mostly peaceful protest turned violent. The violence was in some of the key business, shopping and tourist districts. The statement said around 20 “radical” protesters had attacked police officers. And had thrown petrol bombs, bricks and threatened the safety of the officers.

OUTSIDERS CLAIM THE LEAD AFTER TUNISIA PRESIDENTIAL POLL FORST ROUND
Aljazeera reports two anti-establishment candidates claimed the lead in the first round of the presidential election on Sunday. In a poll focused on high unemployment and a surge in the cost of living. Some 24 candidates were standing in the election. The second since longtime ruler Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was removed in the 2011 revolution. But figures show a lack of voter interest (particularly amongst the young). The turnout was only 45 per cent – down from 64 per cent recorded in the first round in 2014. However, one voter said: “I am voting for the future of Tunisia for my children.” Adding: “I am worried for Tunisia. The situation gets worse and worse, there are no opportunities, especially for my children.”
