KASHMIR: INDIA’S TOP COURT TO EXAMINE STATUS CHANGE

Arab News says The Supreme Court of India has set up a five-judge bench to hear challenges against the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. And its division into two states. The bench refused  arguments that the move might have “cross-border repercussions” and was “liable to be misused.” Leader of the Jammu and Kashmir political movement said the court’s move was the “first step in the long battle against (Article) 370 abrogation.” An advocate, based in Jammu said: “Article 370 has been removed without consultation, without the concurrence of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. If the Supreme Court reinstates Article 370 it would be a victory for democracy.”

CATEGORY 1 HURRICANE HITS US VIRGIN ISLANDS

Aljazeera News reports on Wednesday Dorian became a category 1 hurricane as it hit the US Virgin Islands. Forecasters believe it could strength and become category 3 before it hits the US mainland. It is believed landslides, widespread flooding and power outages are possible in the US territory. “Dorian brings uncertainty, and, for those of us who experienced the storms of 2017, uncomfortable memories,” said British Virgin Islands Gov. Dorian prompted President Trump, to declare a state of emergency. And offered federal assistance for local authorities.

USA WORKING TOWARDS GETTING RUSSIA BACK IN G7

RT News reports US State Secretary Mike Pompeo has said the Trump administration will make an effort to get Russia back in the G7. Adding, its what President Trump thinks Washington should do. When asked if Russia should rejoin and make it the G8 once again, Pompeo said: “Yeah, the President thinks so.” However, he carefully dodged the question as to whether he agrees with Trump on the matter. Adding: “The President thinks that’s what we should do. I work for the President. Of course, we’re going to work towards that end.”
