HONG KONG: LAM WOULD QUIT IF SHE COULD
CNN reports Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam has said she would quit if she had a choice according to a leaked audio recording. She blamed herself for causing “unforgivable havoc” resulting in months of anti-government protests in the city. And regrets pushing the controversial extradition bill which sparked the demonstrations. Lam said: “If I have a choice, the first thing is to quit, having made a deep apology.” During the 24-minute recording, she said: “ This is not something instructed, coerced by the central government.” Adding: “For a chief executive to have caused this huge havoc to Hong Kong is unforgivable.”

US BRACES FOR DORIAN AFTER STORM CLAIMS AT LEAST ONE LIFE IN THE BAHAMAS
France 24 says Hurricane Dorian stalked across the Bahamas on Monday claiming at least one life and spurring mass evacuations on the US east coast. The storms death toll is still untilled more than 24 hours after it made landfall. One official said: “We have reports of casualties, we have reports of bodies being seen. We cannot confirm those reports until we go out and look for ourselves.” Initial Red Cross estimates were that 13,000 building may have been damaged or destroyed. As Dorian continues its crawl towards the US east coast, coastal residents in three states have been ordered to evacuate. Affecting close to a million people. North Carolina has also declared a state of emergency.

ODESSA SHOOTING: GUNMAN FIRED FROM HIS JOB, CALLED FBI BEFORE THE RAMPAGE
Aljazeera News reports the gunman who killed 7 people in Saturday’s mass shooting in West Texas had been fired from his job. Shooter Seth Aaron Ator, 36 ‘was on a long spiral down’ before the attack, police say. Odessa police chief said Ator had been fired on Saturday. He said both the company and Ator had called the police but Ator had left before they arrived. An FBI special agent said Ator’s statements on the phone were “rambling.” Adding: “This did not happen because he was fired. He showed up to work enraged.” And said the place where Ator lived was “a strange residence” and the condition reflected “what his mental state was going into this.”
