BRAZIL PRISON RIOTS: FOUR MORE INMATES DEAD
CNN reports, four more inmates have died following Monday’s deadly prison riot in Northern Brazil. The latest incident brings the riot death toll to a staggering 62 – most of the inmates died from asphyxiation after a rival gang set fire to the prison complex, but 16 were decapitated.
The four inmates killed were being transported in a prison bus, separated into two cells. All prisoners on the bus were reportedly handcuffed during transport. Officials confirm all four have been identified as belonging to the same gang and they were suffocated. They were among 30 others being transferred to a new prison following their involvement in the riot.
Brazil’s overcrowded and underfunded prison system has been the scene of several deadly incidents in the last few months. Human rights groups argue the Brazilian prison system has become a recruitment centre for gangs and organised crime. The lack of action on overcrowding leads to violence and constant clashes between rival gangs.

MOST WANTED: USA NAMES VENEZUELAN MINISTER
International broadcaster, France 24 reports, US officials have named the Venezuelan minister Tareck El Aissami as one of their most wanted. The US immigration agency has said the minister is wanted for suspected drug smuggling.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tweeted: “Have you seen this #mostwanted #fugitive?” alongside a picture of the minister.
Mr El Aissami was charged by US federal authorities back in March for drug trafficking and dodging sanctions imposed by the White House. If arrested and sent to the US to face charges, the minister could face up to 30 years in prison.

WASHINGTON IMPOSES SANCTIONS ON IRAN’S FOREIGN MINISTER
Aljazeera reports, the US has imposed sanctions on the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javid Zarif. The US Treasury Department said Mr Zarif is acting on behalf of Iran’s Supreme Leader, leading them to impose sanctions.
Mr Zarif, however, did not seem fazed by the actions of the US. Instead, he believes the move simply shows Washington sees him as a “threat.”
“The US’ reason for designating me is that I am Iran’s “primary spokesperson around the world”. Is the truth really that painful? It has no effect on me or my family, as I have no property or interests outside of Iran. Thank you for considering me such a huge threat to your agenda.” He tweeted.
