A woman has died after being hit by a police car on Christmas Eve while she was walking.
Emergency services were called to the Kensington area of Merseyside around 8.10pm yesterday evening to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a police car.
Sadly, the woman in her 20s could not be saved.
Formal identification has not yet been made but her next of kin have been informed and her family are being supported by specially trained officers.
Road closures were in place while emergency services attended the incident on Sheil Road.
People at the scene yesterday said they saw ‘a load of police’ but did not know what happened. One eyewitness said they saw a woman being hit by a car.

One person said: ‘It’s horrific. It’s Christmas Eve. Whatever it is is looks bad., It’s heartbreaking.’
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have been informed and have attended the scene.
Merseyside police said they are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.
