In a daring move to avoid a potential collision, a Waymo autonomous taxi was caught on camera driving on the wrong side of a San Francisco street on Friday. The incident occurred as the self-driving vehicle encountered a group of cyclists in its path, prompting the AI system to make a split-second decision to veer onto the opposite side of the road.

The footage, captured by a bystander, shows the Waymo taxi navigating through oncoming traffic with precision and agility, ultimately avoiding a potentially dangerous situation. While the move may have raised some eyebrows among onlookers, it also showcased the advanced technology and quick thinking capabilities of autonomous vehicles.

Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has been at the forefront of self-driving technology and has been testing its autonomous taxis in various cities across the country. The company has emphasized safety as a top priority in its development of self-driving vehicles, and this incident serves as a testament to the effectiveness of its AI systems in real-world scenarios.

Despite the unconventional maneuver, no accidents or injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The Waymo taxi continued on its route after safely navigating around the cyclists, highlighting the potential benefits of autonomous vehicles in improving road safety and reducing traffic incidents.

As the debate over the future of self-driving technology continues, this incident serves as a reminder of the potential advantages and challenges that come with the integration of AI systems on the roads. With further advancements in technology and continued testing, autonomous vehicles like Waymo’s taxi may soon become a common sight on streets around the world.
