US will not limit arms sales to Israel and says they haven’t broken law against blocking aid in Gaza
The United States announced that Israel has not violated American laws regarding the obstruction of aid in Gaza, despite a 30-day deadline to increase humanitarian access lapsing. While officials acknowledged that progress has been made, including the opening of a new land crossing and resumed deliveries to northern Gaza, they also emphasised the need for further improvements.
However, the UN has contradicted these claims, reporting that aid levels in Gaza are at their lowest in a year and warning of famine in the north, where minimal assistance has been delivered over the past month.
UN representatives have raised alarms about the humanitarian crisis, with acting under-secretary Joyce Msuya stating that Israeli restrictions are blocking life-saving supplies in northern Gaza, leaving 75,000 people in dire conditions. She described the situation as involving potential international crimes, amid ongoing displacement and starvation.
Despite this, Washington appears set to continue military aid to Israel, which insists it has significantly increased the flow of humanitarian supplies and accuses aid groups of mismanagement.
