Ukraine denounces Russia’s dirty bomb claim
Ukraine has denounced the claims by Russia that Kyiv might use a “dirty bomb” – explosives laced with radioactive material.
Ukraine’s President Zelensky suggested this latest move from Russia could signal that the Kremlin is preparing an attack of this kind.
The UK, US and France issued a joint statement dismissing Russia’s claims of Ukraine preparing to use a “dirty bomb.”
Russia’s defence minister Sergei Shoigu made the dirty bomb comments in a call with his UK counterpart Ben Wallace.
He said he was “concerned about possible provocations by Kyiv involving the use of a dirty bomb”.
On Sunday he held phone calls with defence ministers of the US, France and Turkey to share his concerns but he provided no evidence to back up the dirty bomb claim.
Ukraine’s president accused Russia of being “the source of everything dirty that can be imagined in this war.”
