EU Roaming charges to return when Brits travel to the EU in spite of Brexit promises

Mobile phone providers are re-introducing fees for customers travelling in Europe, despite assurances that Brexit would not lead to new EU roaming charges.

EE has confirmed new customers will have to pay £2 a day if they wish to use their data, minutes and texts in 47 European countries from January.

Meanwhile, O2 is introducing a data cap of 25 gb for pay monthly customers, after which point they will have to pay £3.50 per gb when using data in Europe.

Brexit means the EU’s ban on roaming charges – introduced in 2017 – no longer applies in the UK.

Some analysts have suggested that the mobile phone companies taking advantage of the lack of certainty provided in the Brexit agreement.
