BREXIT SECRETARY TO MEET EU’S CHIEF NEGOTIATOR

BBC News says Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay is to hold talks with the Eu’s chief negotiator. The news comes after the European Commission President said a new Brexit deal could be reached before 31 October. And Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he did not want to “exaggerate progress” but some was being made. Ahead of today’s meeting in Brussels, Mr Barclay warned the EU against a “rigid” approach. And has suggested the final details of an alternative to the Irish backstop doesn’t need to be resolved until the end of 2020.

CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING PC ANDREW HARPER

The Guardian reports a murder charge against Jed Foster, 20, the man accused of killing PC Andrew Harper, have been dropped. Foster has spent the last month in custody. And prosecutors say they are no longer pursuing the case against Jed Foster, who was arrested within an hour of Harper’s death on 15 August and charged four days later. On Wednesday, three teenagers were charged with Harper’s murder. 18-year-old Henry Long from Reading and two 17-year-old boys who cannot be named appeared at Reading magistrates court on Thursday.

GRIEVING FAMILY RACIALLY ABUSED WHILE PAYING RESPECTS AT THE SCENE OF A FATAL CAR CRASH

The Independent reports a grieving family was subjected to racial abuse while paying their respects at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run. West Midlands Police said the incident happened on Sunday, just two days after Kulvinder Kaur died. Whilst the family were at the scene, a passer-by hurled “vile comments” towards them, according to the police. West Midlands Police said: “Racial abuse is unacceptable at any time but feels even more despicable when a family have just lost a loved one. The abuser was on foot so we believe he may be local and most likely aware of what tragically happened just two days beforehand.”
