Trump easily wins South Carolina but Hayley fights on
Former US President Donald Trump is one step closer to becoming the Republican presidential nomination after a massive win over rival Nikki Haley in South Carolina.
Trump won Haley’s home state by a 20-point margin, marking his fourth consecutive victory.
Trump did not mention Haley as he celebrated, despite her vowing to remain in the race for the nomination.
Instead, Trump focused solely on the upcoming presidential election in November.
The US will likely see a rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden.
Current polls suggest that if the pair are both in the presidential race, it’ll likely be a tight race.
“We’re going to look Joe Biden right in the eye,” he told supporters minutes after US media projected him as the winner on Saturday night.
“He’s destroying our country – and we’re going to say ‘Get out Joe, you’re fired’.”
