Tractors block major roads in Europe as farmers begin ‘siege of Paris’
French farmers are strategically deploying hundreds of tractors to start a major road blockade, it is being referred to as the “siege of Paris.”
Concurrent demonstrations are unfolding nationwide as part of continuing protests against declining incomes, escalating bureaucracy, and heightened competition from imported goods.
Similar protests are unfolding in Belgium and Germany, with tractors obstructing routes leading to Hamburg’s port area.
In response to the unrest, French authorities have sent 15,000 police personnel to prevent tractors from entering Paris and other major cities.
The farmers’ primary objective is to disrupt food deliveries to supermarkets, emphasising their inability to sustain viable agriculture under current economic conditions.
