Tories need to reflect and do more after losses at local elections says Lucy Frazer
Tory Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer has said the government needs to “reflect and do more” following significant losses for the party in local elections in England. The Tories lost over 1,000 councillors in the vote, with some blaming PMRishi Sunak. However, Frazer said that despite a difficult start to the campaign, voters “were beginning to give Rishi Sunak credit”.
Labour won control of 22 councils including key battlegrounds, with Professor of Politics at Strathclyde University Sir John Curtice predicting the party would win 35% of the national vote share if a general election were held. Despite the wins, some suggest the party’s vote share, if repeated in the general election, could leave Labour short of an overall majority.
