Spider-Man actor Tom Holland announces social media break for mental health
Tom Holland has announced he will leave social media to protect his mental health, in a video posted on his Instagram.
The Spider-Man actor said in the three-minute video, that he had been trying to make the video for “about an hour” as he struggled to figure out what he wanted to say.
But then he says: “I have taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating and overwhelming.
“I get caught up and spiral when I read things about me online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state.
“So I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”
In the caption, he wrote that he had felt “compelled” to come back online to share some information about a charity he is supporting.
Stem4 runs an education programme to help teenagers and their families manage their mental health.
“There is an awful stigma against mental health and I know that asking for help and seeking help isn’t something that we should be ashamed of but it is something that is much easier said than done,” he added.
Hollan confirmed he’ll be disappearing from Instagram and thanked the fans for their love and support.
The young British actor recently began filming The Crowded Room – an AppleTV+ series exploring true stories about people who have learnt to live with mental illness.
