Natalie Appleton admitted she insisted on some changes to Fawn before settling on her costume for The Masked Singer.
The All Saints singer was unveiled in the final of the hit ITV singing competition, which saw Charlie Simpson win as he was unmasked as Rhino, and she admitted she wanted to inject a bit of her own personality into the character, which had been created for a previous series.
Appearing on Monday’s episode of This Morning, she said: ‘Originally, they said to me I could choose a costume. I had ideas, and then they had four left over from the show that hadn’t been allocated yet and Fawn was one of them.
‘But she was wearing a dress, with knee length boots and I kind of thought… it looks just like my dog, but is it possible to put her trousers or jumpers?’
She added: ‘They did that, they changed the dress.’
The 49-year-old star loves the show but she initially had a bit of doubt in her mind about whether she’d be able to do it, which was quickly shut down by her husband Liam Howlett and their 18-year-old son Ace.

‘We were having a break and I got an email saying, “Would you like to do The Masked Singer?” I was like, it’s one of my favourite shows, I’d love to but I don’t know if I can do this,’ she admitted.
‘I spoke to my husband and I spoke to my son and they said, “Do it, it’s what you do! You love to sing, do it!” Yeah, I did it!’
However, she didn’t tell her 30-year-old daughter Rachel, whom she has with ex Carl Robinson, because she wanted to keep it as a nice ‘surprise’ even though she was definitely suspicious.

‘No, it was a surprise because it’s her favourite show as well! So I thought it was a little gift to her,’ Natalie explained. ‘She was very suspicious, she cried when she heard the first performance.
‘”Mum, someone sounds just like you mum. everyone’s saying it’s you but I know you would’ve told me, mum!” She had her suspicions.’
Meanwhile, the singer tried to figure out who some of her fellow celebrities were under their masks, but she ‘didn’t recognise anybody’.
‘So, there was one soundcheck we did, it was a camera rehearsal for the big group performance. We had our hoodies on, “Don’t speak to me” and our masks on, but I was looking at everyone’s trousers and shoes,’ she admitted.
‘I was thinking, “Jacket Potato’s wearing the nicest shoes I’ve ever seen, he has got taste!” I was thinking, “Do I recognise those trainers, legs?” Nobody. I didn’t recognise anybody.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
