Tennis sensation Nick Kyrgios seeks assault case dismissal
Aussie tennis sensation Nick Kyrgios’ lawyers will apply to have the assault charge against him dropped on the grounds of mental health.
He is currently playing in the Japan Open in Tokyo.
The charge comes from an alleged assault that took place in December 2021 on a former partner. If found guilty, he could be behind bars for a maximum of two years in prison.
But his lawyer said he was making the application after reviewing his client’s “medical history since 2015.” If the courts’ are satisfied that he is mentally impaired, they can dismiss the case – but the bar to have a case thrown out on these grounds is high.
A hearing will take place on 3 February.
