North Korea fires ballistic missile over Japan

North Korea has reportedly fired a missile over Japan, the missile travelled about 2,800 miles before it fell into the Pacific Ocean. It is expected to be a deliberate escalation to get the attention of Tokyo and Washington.

It’s the first North Korean missile launch over Japan since 2017. 

Alerts were sent to some citizens, telling some to take cover. Whilst others woke up to sirens and text alerts telling citizens to look out for falling debris. 

The UN prohibits North Korea from testing ballistic and nuclear weapons and flying missiles near or towards other countries without pre-warning or consultation could be seen as hugely provocative. 

Most countries would avoid testing near or towards other countries as it could be mistaken for an attack.
