PM facing tough week over Suella Braverman and Rwanda ruling
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is set to have a tough week ahead, as continued growing calls for him to sack his home secretary and plans of a reshuffle dominate UK politics.
Suella Braverman has been under intense criticism following an article she wrote in the Times ahead of Armistice Day. Many have argued the home secretary had intentionally stoked tensions and is in part responsible for the violence witnessed on Saturday.
Opposition parties and some Tories are calling for her to be sacked.
The expected reshuffle, which some believe will happen on Monday, could see Braverman out. It’s expected Theresa Coffey will also be given the boot.
Elsewhere, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court will say whether the government’s plans to send some of those arriving on small boats to Rwanda can happen.
It’s a big political moment for Sunak and his party as it is a flagship government idea, that’s been stalled by the courts for a long time.
Inflation figures will also be released on Wednesday, and the government is increasingly confident it will meet its promise of halving inflation this year.
It’s a big week in politics this week, and several issues could help draw the battle lines ahead of the general election.
