A Subway eatery was criticized as being insensitive for a sign stating ‘our subs don’t implode’ after the Titan submersible disaster that killed five.

The sandwich chain’s franchise located in Rincon, Georgia, had the sign visible from Highway 21 on Sunday morning, WTOC reported.

It appeared to be a reference to OceanGate’s Titan submersible which imploded during a journey to view the Titanic wreckage on June 18. All five passengers died.

Many social media users slammed the Subway shop’s sign as tone-deaf.

A store manager of the Subway eatery said the sign has been taken down (Picture: Reddit/D3T3KT)

‘@Subway this is your store in Rincon, GA,’ wrote a Twitter user, along with an image of the sign.

‘Not only is it distasteful, it’s just sad. Do better.’

Another Twitter user wrote: ‘This is what we are doing now? Making fun of people who lost their lives.’

A store manager of the Subway told WTOC on Monday that the sign was removed and would not provide further comment.

Subway’s corporate headquarters told Fox News Digital: ‘We have been in contact with the franchise about this matter and made it clear that this kind of comment has no place in our business.

‘The sign has since been removed.’

Rincon is part of the Savannah metropolitan area.

Victims of the Titan implosion are OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, French Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani-British businessman Shahzadad Dawood and his 19-year-old son Sulaiman Dawood.

The US Coast Guard recovered Titan debris and human remains.
