Pep Guardiola is under huge pressure – no wonder he lashed out at Manchester City fans
The i says for a man who had just beaten the runners-up in the Bundesliga by three clear goals, Pep Guardiola did not seem enthused by Wednesday’s breathless victory over RB Leipzig.
The most lasting image of the 6-3 win was the Manchester City manager berating first Riyad Mahrez and then Jack Grealish on the touchline, delivering a finger-wagging impression of a teacher disappointed with two of his more wayward pupils.
What had angered Guardiola was that, although both men scored in one of the most constantly thrilling games the Etihad has staged, neither showed much inclination to track back. “We spoke at half time about the way they have to do it,” Guardiola explained. “They didn’t do it. Fights happen.”
