Australian Open 2022: Emma Raducanu knocked out

Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of the Australian Open in the second round after losing to Danka Kovinic.

The British No 1 raced into a 3-0 lead before having issues with a blister on her racquet hand and losing the opening set.

Raducanu showed her resilience as she fought back and won the second, but unfortunately, the US Open champion fell to a 6-4 4-6 6-3 defeat on Margaret Court Arena.

Kovinic is into the last 32 of a Grand Slam for the first time.

“It was a really nice experience to play Emma here and make the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time after many years,” said Kovinic.

“Emma has had amazing results, winning a Grand Slam at such a young age. She is an amazing talent. I’m just so happy I could play such a high level.

“I was a little bit low in my energy through the third set so I tried to focus on myself, not show much emotion and save my energy.”

Raducanu had only lost one Grand Slam match before this match and while she was defeated the British superstar would have won over plenty of fans.

Andy Murray out of Australian Open – loses in straight sets

Andy Murray – another Brit – is also out of the Australian Open 2022 after he produced a subdued display and was beaten by Japan’s Taro Daniel.

Murray lost 6-4 6-4 6-4 to qualifier Daniel on John Cain Arena.

Murray’s defeat means Dan Evans is the final Briton left in the men’s singles.
