Morrisons, Tesco and the Co-op all put up Easter egg displays on Boxing Day (Pictures: Splash)
The festive season may be over, but constantly being confronted with reasons to spend your money never will be.
That’s because Easter is coming up – in three and a half months, to be exact.
But apparently this is not too early to start selling chocolate eggs, with supermarkets already displaying the treats on Boxing Day.
Shoppers still recovering from Christmas lunch spotted Mini Eggs, Lindt and Cadbury bunnies, Galaxy caramel eggs, Malteser bunnies and Creme Eggs.
Displays were seen at Morrisons, Tesco and the Co-op.
People took to social media to mock the early appearance, dubbing it ‘commercialism at its best’.
One person joked: ‘It’s that time! Easter’ while others begged ‘make it stop’.

Another accused supermarkets of ‘just greed’ and someone else joked: ‘What next? Halloween?’
Next year’s Easter Sunday lands on April 9, which is 102 days away.
This is the second time this week major supermarkets have been criticised by people all over the country.
Multiple families have claimed Christmas was ruined after discovering their turkeys were ‘rotten’.
Many took to social media to post photos showing dark colours under the skin and general discolouring.
They also described a foul smell coming from the meat, which forced them to bin the whole lot.
Customers of Sainsbury’s, Lidl, Asda, Tesco and Morrisons all complained, with one man sharing a picture of his thawed turkey saying: ‘My turkey is rotten. Christmas ruined. Kids are crying. We now have to have beans on toast. An absolute disgrace.’
Several of the supermarkets told Metro.co.uk they would investigate any complaints made.
