Courteney Cox has shed light on the upcoming Scream 6 sequel, and she is as terrified as the rest of us.
The Friends actress reprised her role of Gale Weathers in the slasher flick, aka Scream VI, alongside Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera and Hayden Panettiere.
Ahead of the release, on March 10, the 58-year-old opened up on what to expect, admitting that she had no idea who was under the Ghostface mask for the first time ever.
‘I have a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing,’ she teased. ‘I’ve obviously been stabbed many times and all that, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who’s under the mask, it was a really fun. Usually by the time I’m getting stabbed, I know who it is.
‘I was excited, I was scared,’ she recalled of the first time she watched the finished product. ‘Even if I know every single person and what’s going to happen and why and when, I won’t look. It’s so realistic. And I laughed! I cared.’
The recent trailer confirmed that the survivors from Scream 5 had swapped Woodsboro for New York, with Dermot Mulroney, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori and Jack Champion among the new castmates ready to avoid Ghostface’s wrath.

There are many questions concerning how the gang ended up in the city, and how Gale – and Kirby (Hayden) – have joined them.
Spilling the beans on her character’s journey, Courteney continued to Variety: ‘She still lives in New York, which is great because now the killer’s in New York, just as Sam and Tara have moved there. It kind of fell right into her lap. She wrote a book afterward. She told Sam that she wouldn’t and then of course she did because I mean, someone was going to do it. So, she had to.
‘Kirby comes – Hayden Panettiere. It’s so interesting how people came back. I have to remember. I thought she died! I get so confused. There’s been so many. I’m just so excited to be a part of something this long.’

However, one notable star didn’t return to the fold as Neve Campbell stepped back from all things Scream, over a dispute regarding her salary.
This marks the first film in the franchise that doesn’t involve final girl Sidney Prescott.
Discussing her exit, Courteney added: ‘I missed working with her, but I’m going to support whatever she feels is right.’

Scream 5 hit the big screen last January, introducing fans to Sam and Tara Carpenter, played by Melissa and Jenna respectively, as well as their new pals.
Of course, not all of them survived the massacre but twins Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding) managed to make it out of Woodsboro alive, and will be in the sixth instalment.
Melissa previously discussed the timeline of events with Entertainment Tonight, adding to the publication: ‘Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie.
‘Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world.

‘So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts about this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affected them.
‘We get to really see the baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.’
Scream VI is released in cinemas on March 10.
