Sasha Banks is making moves (Picture: WWE)
Sasha Banks has tweeted some ‘thank yous’ before her reported appearance at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
The former WWE superstar, whose real name is Mercedes Varnado, sensationally walked out of an episode of Raw with her tag team partner Naomi (Trinity Fatu) over creative differences and has kept tight lipped about her wrestling future ever since.
Now, she’s heavily rumoured to be part of the biggest show on the New Japan Pro Wrestling calendar at the Tokyo Dome this morning, and she’s poured some last minute fuel on the fire.
Kicking off a series of tweets in which she tagged each person or company, she wrote: ‘Thank you @wwe’.
She then posted almost identical messages thanking William Regal, Triple H, the WWE Universe and Vince McMahon, as well as another tweet which reads: ‘Thank you #Krew’.
In her most recent post, she appears to hint at taking on a new moniker, with WWE owning the rights to her previous persona, as she wrote: ‘Thank you #SashaBanks’.
It’s not known what involvement she will have at Wrestle Kingdom, although fans have been assuming she could appear after former WWE star KAIRI’s IWGP Women’s Title match against Tam Nakano.
Meanwhile, it sounds like Mercedes – who recently trademarked the name Mone’ Banks – will have plenty of support from friends for her next big move.
Naomi is also in Japan, while it’s reported current WWE superstar Bayley has flown out to see her friend take the next step in her career, and it’s thought Asuka could also be in attendance.
Since essentially quitting WWE, Mercedes has kept busy with various other projects, including walking the runway at New York Fashion Week and landing her first Vogue magazine cover.
Her wrestling future has been unclear, and for a long time it was thought she could even decide to return to the company once Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, took over as head of creative and talent relations.
NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 airs January 4 at 8am on NJPW World.
