Russia election 2024: Voting begins in election Putin is bound to win
Voting has started in Russia’s presidential election, widely expected to secure another six-year term for Vladimir Putin. The election spans three days, although the outcome is essentially predetermined, lacking any credible opposition.
Polling stations opened on Friday at 08:00 local time in the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia’s easternmost region, and will conclude at 20:00 on Sunday in the westernmost Kaliningrad enclave.
Last December, during a grand military awards ceremony, Putin announced his candidacy for a fifth presidential term.
“We need you, Russia needs you!” declared Lt-Col Artyom Zhoga, asking him to run as a candidate in Russia’s forthcoming presidential election. Everyone voiced their support.
Vladimir Putin nodded: “Now is the time for making decisions. I will be running for the post of president of the Russian Federation.”
