Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has reportedly turned down the chance to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
Ronaldo’s move to the Saudi Arabian club was confirmed shortly before the end of 2022, following his high-profile exit from Manchester United.
The legendary forward had been hoping to continue his career at a Champions League club but was forced to abandon plans after no one attempted to sign him.
He’ll now play for Al Nassr, where he will earn £173million-a-year, but following his capture, the Saudi Pro League wants to bring more big name players to its competition.
This is so they can rival Qatar’s own top-flight which over the years has attracted the likes of Xavi, Raul, Samuel Eto’o, Marcel Desailly and Pep Guardiola.
It is all part of a big push to promote and expand Saudi’s influence in football following their purchase of Newcastle and their plans to host the 2030 World Cup in a joint-bid with Egypt and Greece.
Marca report that Saudi officials are already working on several signings, including Ronaldo’s old Real Madrid teammate Modric.

2018 Ballon d’Or winner Modric’s Real contract is up in the summer, but the reports suggest the 37-year-old has no intention of leaving Los Blancos having only recently played a starring role in their latest Champions League triumph.
Real are also happy to extend his deal for another season, but Al Nassr and co. are happy to wait another year before getting the Croatian midfielder.
Other names linked with Saudi include former Real captain Sergio Ramos, currently at PSG, and Barcelona skipper Sergio Busquets.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo could make his Al Nassr debut on Thursday, with the 37-year-old available for their clash against Al Ta’ee.
