Rat remains found in bread sparks Japan recall and refunds
One of Japan’s beloved bread brands is in hot water after the unsettling discovery of a rat’s remains in some of its products. Pasco Shikishima Corporation, known for its sliced white bread, is recalling around 104,000 packets from shelves and offering refunds.
The shocking find was made in at least two packets of the bread, sparking concerns among consumers. Pasco bread is a household staple in Japan, commonly found in supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of anyone falling ill from consuming the contaminated bread, according to Pasco’s statement earlier this week.
“We deeply apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers, business partners, and all concerned parties,” it said.

The affected bread was produced at a factory in Tokyo, which has now halted its assembly line.
While Pasco did not specify how the rat’s remains ended up in its products, the company has promised to strengthen its quality controls to prevent similar incidents in the future.
To address the issue, Pasco has provided a form on its website for affected customers to apply for refunds online.
Despite being a rare occurrence in Japan, food recalls are taken seriously in a country known for its stringent sanitation standards.
