Protester throws glitter on Sir Keir as conference gets underway
The Labour Party conference began in Liverpool with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s speech being disrupted by a man who threw glitter over him as he prepared to speak.
The man shouted about “true democracy” and “crisis” before he was dragged off the stage.
Starmer laughed off the protest and delivered his speech.
Labour promises ‘decade of national renewal’
Sir Keir has promised a “decade of national” renewal in his speech if Labour is elected at the next general election.
The speech is likely Starmer’s last pitch to be prime minister of the UK and he’s planning for at least two terms in office.
He’s promised NHS reform and more police on the streets, saying: “Together we will fix tomorrow’s challenges today.”
