PM declares Macron a friend at new political club of nations
Prime Minister Liz Truss has declared France’s president Emmanuel Macron a “friend” as they announced plans to work together at the first meeting of a new political club of nations.
During her campaign trail, Truss refused to say whether the French President was a “friend or foe”.
Macron says he hopes for a “new phase” in post-Brexit relations and the pair agreed to step up cooperation on “ending” small boat crossings in the Channel ahead of a summit in 2023.
Truss attended the first European Political Community summit in Prague on Thursday.
Leaders from the EU, the UK, Turkey, Norway and the Balkans discussed energy, migration and security and there was a focus on the war in Ukraine.
