Vitamin gummies have seemingly taken the wellness space by storm, with users keen on tasty flavours, convenience and, if you’re lucky, maybe even some tangible results.
Shoppers have been raving about wellness brand Yumi’s Gut Health Probiotic – which aims to tackle one of the most-talked-about health areas – the gut.
So in a quest to see whether or not the hype was real on these gut health gummies, we roadtested them over the course of a few weeks. You’re welcome.
We’re learning more and more about how important the gut is for our overall well-being, with poor gut health linked to a decline in mood, skin issues and more serious diseases and illnesses. Seventy-percent of our immune system is located in the gut, according to research from UCLA Health.
So how can we help boost it? Eating a rich and varied diet full of whole foods and staying away from processed nasties is a good start, of course, but for an extra gut health boost, many are finding themselves looking to probiotics.
Supplements, such as these Gut Health gummies, contain 500 million CFU of Lactobacillus paracasei and 500 million CFU of Lactobacillus salivarius to help restore the balance of bacteria in your gut and improve its health over time.

How can probiotics help gut health?
Probiotics can help restore the natural balance of bacteria in your gut, as our expert explains.
‘Probiotics can play a significant role in supporting gut health by promoting a diverse and well-balanced gut microbiome,’ Tim Gray, UK’s leading biohacker and founder of the Health Optimisation Summit, tells us.
‘The gut microbiome refers to the trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, that live in our digestive tracts. These microorganisms are critical for maintaining various aspects of our overall health, including digestion, metabolism, immune function, and even mental health.’

So why does our gut health start to suffer in the first place?
‘Factors such as alcohol consumption, antibiotic use, and exposure to other substances that can destroy or inhibit bacterial growth can disrupt the balance of the gut microbiome,’ explains Gray.
‘This imbalance can lead to various health problems, including digestive issues, weakened immunity, and increased susceptibility to infections. By using probiotics you can introduce beneficial bacteria back into the gut, helping to restore the balance of the gut microbiome and in turn promote overall gut health.’
Metro tries Yumi’s Gut Health gummies
Lauren says: ‘Gut health is an area I’ve been thinking more and more about, considering the clear links between skin health, brain health and our overall health – not to mention the positive impact on digestion of a healthy gut. I’ve always found taking supplements, in general, a little hit-and-miss – it’s not exactly a pleasant experience – so was keen to try out the gummies trend.
‘Firstly a caveat, it can take months – even up to six months – to see a noticeable difference when it comes to supplements. So my initial thoughts are mainly centred around how easy the gummies were to take (and their pleasing fruity flavour).
‘My first thought when trialling the gummies was, ‘these really remind me of wine gums’ – so far, so good. Feeling more like a sweet snack to enjoy after lunch, rather than a chore, it was clear that this was going to be a lot easier to stick to than my previous failed attempts at getting into a supplement routine.
‘While the taste is sweet, after delving into the ingredients list it’s good to know that the gummies only use natural sugars and steer well clear of artificial sweeteners – as they can wreak havoc with our health and be counterproductive.
‘I can be quite sensitive to certain supplements – mainly omega-3 and spirulina (and I even get a little queasy after drinking green tea – but the gummies had no side effects for me and I did notice that my stomach felt settled throughout the afternoon.
‘While it’s hard to tell exactly what impact they’re having on my gut health after only a few weeks, I will say I’ve felt less bloated and my digestion has found a regular rhythm.
‘My stomach has felt settled over the testing period – it’s more of a difference than I expected to see in just a short space of time.’
What should we be doing alongside taking a probiotic?
In order to support gut healing, it’s important to ensure your lifestyle is contributing towards gut health.
‘Avoide microbiome disruptors,’ Gray suggests.
‘It is important to avoid substances that can negatively impact your gut bacteria. These “microbiome killers” can include antibiotics, excessive alcohol consumption, artificial sweeteners, and overly processed foods.’
It’s also a good idea to introduce fermented foods and drinks into your diet ‘that naturally contain beneficial bacteria’.
Gray adds: ‘Foods like yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi are rich in probiotics and can help diversify your gut microbiome.’
But our expert does advise to be cautious when it comes to commercial kombucha.

He tells us: ‘While kombucha can be a good source of natural probiotics, you should be cautious when selecting commercial kombucha products.
‘Some factory-made kombuchas can contain higher levels of alcohol than homemade versions, which can be detrimental to your gut health.’
It’s also important to make sure you’re aware of how your body is reacting to taking a supplement, particularly a probiotic.
‘Generally, probiotics are considered safe for most people. However, some individuals may experience mild side effects, especially when starting a new probiotic supplement,’ Gray explains.
‘These side effects can include gas, bloating, or an upset stomach. It is advisable to start with a lower dose and gradually increase it over time, allowing your body to adjust to the new probiotics.’
