Oscar Pistorius makes new parole bid 10 years after killing girlfriend
Oscar Pistorius will make another bid for early parole from the South African prison where he is serving over 13 years for murdering his girlfriend.
Pistorius – the former paralympic champion – is in prison for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to death at his home in Pretoria.
The 2013 killing shocked the world.
The parole hearing will be at Atteridgeville prison, just outside Pretoria.
Steenkamp’s mother June is not opposing parole.
It’s not clear how quickly the parole board will decide but it could be fast. If he is granted parole, a date will be set for his release.
Steenkamp was killed when Pistorius fired four shots through the toilet door in February 2013. He claimed at trial he thought an intruder was in the house and didn’t realise Steenkamp was out of bed.
