A tourist from the USA has been detained by North Korean authorities after crossing the military border without permission.
He entered the country from South Korea, the authorities have confirmed.
The man was reportedly taking part in a tour to the Joint Security Area (JSA), which is the border village in the demilitarised zone separating the two Koreas where soldiers from both sides stand guard.
The United Nations Command said in a statement on Twitter: ‘A US National on a JSA orientation tour crossed, without authorisation, the Military Demarcation Line into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
‘We believe he is currently in DPRK custody and are working with our KPA counterparts to resolve this incident.’
