Nick Cannon has opened up on supporting Alec Baldwin during the recent Rust tragedy.

The pair worked alongside each other on the upcoming film Hollywood Heist, which also stars Mickey Rourke and Tara Reid.

Speaking about the project, the dad-of-12 revealed how he had been by the 65-year-old’s side throughout his legal issues.

‘I’ve been supporting him, he’s one of the greats,’ the 42-year-old said. ‘But then obviously the unfortunate and tragic situation that he’s in the middle of.

‘When things like that happen, all you can do is pray for your friends and your colleagues, and the prayers were answered.’

Cannon also revealed that filming served as a distraction for his co-star, allowing him to put his energy into something else.

‘It gave him the opportunity to take his mind off of some very serious stuff that was going on in his mind, because when we were making it, he was in the midst of all of that,’ he added to Entertainment Tonight.

‘So, prayers, shout outs. Love him. I can’t wait for people to see the film.’

According to Deadline, Hollywood Heist was filmed in Las Vegas and Majorca, and principal photography wrapped last week.

It will follow an agent (Cannon), as he hopes to land a Hollywood heavyweight (Baldwin), while his client battles to save their production.

Cannon’s words come after Baldwin resumed filming on Rust – following the death of Halyna Hutchins in October, 2021.

The actor accidentally shot and killed the cinematographer on the set of the Western film in New Mexico, with officials investigating what led to her death.

He has always maintained that he was unaware that the gun contained a live round, and pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter earlier this year.

On Thursday, the charges were dropped without prejudice but he has not been absolved of ‘criminal culpability’.

It was later revealed that Hutchins’ family were continuing their civil suit against the Boss Baby actor, with legal representatives insisting that he could not ‘escape from the fact that he had a major role in a tragedy’.

Last week, production restarted on the movie with Baldwin and director Joel Souza – who was also injured in the incident – making the move from New Mexico to Montana to compete it.

Taking to Instagram, the Hollywood star thanked those in the area for their support during his career so far.

‘We filmed SUPERCELL in Billings,’ he wrote beside a screenshot of a film. ‘Now outside of Bozeman to complete RUST. Montana is stunning.

‘I’m grateful for all of the support I have received here.’
