Cara Delevigne and Emma Roberts were almost unrecognisable as they hit the streets of New York to film the latest season of American Horror Story on Monday.

Dressed up as their characters, the stars began shooting scenes for the 12th series of the popular show by Glee creator Ryan Murphy.

While Emma, 32, was identifiable by her signature long blonde locks, her model co-star Cara, 30, looked nothing like her usual self.

Turning heads on the city’s sidewalks, the supermodel-turned-actress sported a bouncy brunette bob and straight-edged fringe as she tottered around in sky-high bright red heels.

She wore an all-black ensemble that featured a tailored blazer, tight pencil skirt and a sheer shirt with a huge bow tied around her neck.

For accessories, the show’s wardrobe department added a pair of red-rimmed sunglasses, red leather gloves, a black PVC clutch bag and a white cigarette in a holder.

The pair of Hollywood A-listers were acting out parts of Ryan and Brad Falchuk’s much-loved FX anthology for the new instalment that is expected to be titled Delicate – after Danielle Valentine’s upcoming novel Delicate Condition.

Due to hit shelves later this summer, the book is thought to be about a woman who believes someone sinister is determined to stop her pregnancy from happening.

Ahead of the next season, Cara will make her American Horror Story debut while Emma returns having previously starred in the franchise from 2013 until 2019.

In season three, season four, season seven and season eight, she played Madison Montgomery, Maggie Esmerelda, Serena Belinda and Brooke Thompson respectively.

Elsewhere, the star-studded cast includes none other than the reality queen herself Kim Kardashian, 42.

The star announced the news by sharing a teaser trailer clip to her Instagram that the franchise also posted on their own accounts.

In the footage, Kim isn’t actually shown but the words, ‘AHS12. Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian are delicate. This summer.’ gave some indication the Skims founder would be involved.

Details of Kim’s role and cameo in the hit series are largely unknown at this time as she didn’t reveal any further hints than the video clip.
