The papers make uncomfortable reading for Boris Johnson as the resignation of Conservative MP Owen Paterson, who was found to have broken lobbying rules, dominates Friday’s front pages. 

The Daily Express splashes on the world’s first pill to fight COVID-19, which trials have shown has cut the risk of hospitalisation or death by half.

The Daily Mirror leads with the news that murderer David Fuller, a hospital electrician, sexually assaulted at least 100 dead women and girls in hospital mortuaries.

The Metro reports that Mr Owen Paterson only found out there would be a new vote on his suspension while shopping in a supermarket – and decided to quit hours later.

The Sun splashes on boxing champion Tyson Fury who took two fans on an eight-hour booze bender after the women asked for a selfie. 

The PM is facing anger from his own benches after the humiliating U-turn over parliamentary sleaze prompted the resignation of Owen Paterson, the Independent reports as its lead story. 

The Guardian says the Tories have been “plunged into crisis” after what it describes as a “humiliating government U-turn”. No 10 withdrew its backing for Mr Paterson less than 24 hours after ordering MPs to back an amendment which avoided his suspension by overhauling the standards system, the paper reports.
