Russian Duma passes law giving 15-year prison sentences for spreading ‘false information’ about military
The Independent says Russia has passed a new law meaning citizens who spread what it described as “fake” information about the military can be jailed for up to 15 years.
It comes as the Kremlin continues to insist that its war with neighbouring Ukraine is a “special operation”.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, is continuing to crack down on protesters taking to the streets to demonstrate against the conflict, which entered its eighth day on Friday.
