Covid: New restrictions for England likely next week
BBC News says coronavirus restrictions are to be further tightened in parts of England early next week, with the closure of bars and restaurants a possibility, the BBC has been told.
There could also be a ban on overnight stays away from home.
No 10 is also likely to introduce a three-tier system for local lockdowns, with different parts of the country placed in different categories.

Germany’s case rise by highest total since early April
The Guardian says the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by a staggering 4,058 to 310,144, data from the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases showed on Thursday.
The reported death toll rose by 16 to 9,578, the tally showed.

France records record new all-time high of nearly 19,000 cases in 24 hours
France24 says French health authorities reported 18,746 new confirmed Covid-19 cases over 24 hours on Wednesday, a new all-time daily high, and almost double Tuesday’s tally of 10,489.
The French Covid-19 death toll was up by 80, at 32,445, and the cumulative number of cases now totals 653,509.
