Mike Tindall reached out to Prince William to break the news that he would be going on this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
The former England captain, 44, who’s married to Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall, became the first member of the royal family ever to take part in the ITV show.
Following his return from the programme, which saw him narrowly miss out on a spot in the final as he left the jungle in fourth place, Mike has opened up on how the Firm reacted to him signing up.
Speaking on his podcast, The Good, the Bad and the Rugby, Mike revealed he approached the Prince of Wales before the news broke that he would be going into camp.
While he explained he hadn’t asked for permission, Mike said: ‘You don’t want to upset anyone. I spoke to the Prince of Wales about it, and he said “Great, go have fun!”.’

Mike added that he wasn’t told not to share any stories about the royal family while in camp but was aware to be considerate.
As a result, he sometimes would ‘cut conversations short’ when being probed by his fellow campmates about life inside the palace.

Prior to going on I’m A Celebrity, Mike shared that he had a ‘few conversations’ although remained tight-lipped about what they were about.
He added that he has ‘no idea’ who, if anyone, in the royal family will be voting him in to be doing any Bushtucker trials.
