A bitter battle to become the next prime minister has begun after Liz Truss resigned, ending the shortest premiership in British history, writes the Metro. 

The paper’s headline reads: “The worst PM we’ve ever had” and says former PM Boris Johnson, who left office on 6 September, is said to be planning a run. 

The front page features an image of Liz Truss as she gave her resignation speech – after just 44 days on the job, she’s the UK’s shortest-serving PM in history.
