Barcelona forward Memphis Depay has been identified as an alternative to Wout Weghorst by Manchester United.
The Red Devils have made a move to sign the Burnley striker, who is currently on loan at Besiktas.
However, the Turks are keen on keeping the 30-year-old and they would be due compensation if the Clarets cut short his season-long loan deal.
Erik ten Hag feels the 6ft6in striker could add an aerial threat to United’s attack and feels he would offer a different dynamic to Anthony Martial.
Nevertheless, United understand the difficulties of the deal and they’ve therefore drawn up a list of alternatives.

Vincent Aboubakar, who left Al Nassr to make way for Cristiano Ronaldo, has been ruled out as an option, while United have baulked at Atletico Madrid’s asking price for Joao Felix.
Depay, who spent three years at United before joining Lyon, is out of contract at Barcelona at the end of the season.

The Dutchman is unhappy with his playing time at the Camp Nou, having made just four appearances so far this season.
Barcelona are willing to let Depay go on loan for the remainder of the season providing his wages are covered.
United take on Barcelona in a Europa League play-off next month, though Depay would be ineligible to play against his parent club should he return to Old Trafford.
