Megan Thee Stallion Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles After Being Shot by Tory Lanez
In a candid interview with Women’s Health Magazine, Megan Thee Stallion has revealed the emotional toll she experienced in the aftermath of being shot by Canadian rapper Tory Lanez. Lanez was sentenced to a decade behind bars in August 2023 for assaulting the 29-year-old US hip hop star.
The “Savage” singer shared, “A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time. I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me.”
Megan also opened up about her struggles with mental health, admitting that she often stayed in her bedroom with the lights off and didn’t want to see the sun. It took her a while to acknowledge that she was depressed, but with the help of therapy, she was able to be truthful with herself.
Despite the trauma she endured, Megan Thee Stallion is focusing on her healing and growth. She has undergone therapy and is planning to release a third album and launch a Hot Girl Summer tour this year. The Grammy-winning artist shared, “I was inspired to create this album about rebirth because I feel I am becoming a new person physically and mentally.”
During the trial, it was revealed that Lanez fired a gun at Megan Thee Stallion’s feet and shouted for her to dance as she walked away from an SUV in July 2020. Two bullets hit her in the foot after they had left a party at Kylie Jenner’s home. Lanez was convicted of assault and other charges in December 2021.
Following his sentencing, Lanez maintained his innocence and refused to apologize on social media. He wrote, “I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never let no jail time eliminate me.”
Megan Thee Stallion’s bravery in speaking out about her experiences serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health and self-care, even in the face of adversity.
