A big brawl between a pontoon boat group and a dinner cruise worker over a parking spot broke out when tensions between the two parties reached a boiling point.

They were no strangers to each other, it turns out.

Jim Kittrell, the captain of the Harriot II dinner cruise in Montgomery, Alabama, said he was trying to dock the vessel on Sunday but that the pontoon boat was in the way and it was not the first time they had encountered each other.

‘This is the same group that comes every year. They’re from Selma and we’ve had trouble with them in the past, but just like jokey things,’ Kittrell said on 93.1 radio’s News & Views with Joey Clark show on Monday.

This video shows how the whole Alabama ferry brawl started.

‘Like, a couple of years ago, this same group was here. We came back from a cruise and our golf cart was missing… we finally found it in the Hampton Inn lobby.’

Kittrell added that he looked into CCTV from the inn and ‘found out who did it and we had them come down’.

‘We were going to press charges then, but the police talked us out of it,’ Kittrell said.

A viral video shows about 20 people fighting on a dock by Riverfront Park, after a dinner cruise worker confronted the pontoon boat group. It gets physical when a shirtless man lunges for the dinner cruise employee, who throws off his hat and attacks the pontoon group members. Several people struggle on the dock floor as dinner cruise passengers watch from the water.

A woman on the dinner cruise is heard saying: ‘Guy in the white shirt is crew from our little dinner cruise boat. He got off our ship to go over there to move that black pontoon boat on his own because those guys who parked there were told not to leave it there and they left it there.’

She added, ‘I hope police give him a big ‘ole ticket.’

A Twitter user who shared the video wrote that the dinner cruise worker ‘was doing his job telling these folks to move their boat so the ferry could dock’ and that ‘privileged a** white people refused to move and then jumped him’.

Cops who responded to the altercation detained several people ‘and any charges are pending’ a Montgomery police spokesperson told Newsweek on Monday.
