Marca – Puro Madrid
Madrid-based Marca devoted their entire Monday front page to Real’s dramatic 79-78 win over Olympiacos in the EuroLeague basketball final, with no reference to Vinicius.
In a review of the match, before the widespread condemnation of the crowd’s behaviour, an online article barely even mentioned the racism, affording only one mention. “After an incident involving Vinicius Junior, he pushed Hugo Duro in the face and was shown a red card, but the Brazilian singled out an individual in the crowd appearing to accuse them of racism.”
By Tuesday, Marca had dedicated an entire front splash – in a dramatic black-and-white message with no image on the front page. The Tuesday edition says “it is not enough to not be racist, you must be anti-racist.”
