Manchester United could face Barcelona, Juventus or Ajax in their Europa League play-off after finishing second in Group E.
Alejandro Garnacho’s goal sealed United’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on Thursday evening but it wasn’t enough to finish top of Group E as they needed to beat their Spanish opponents by two clear goals.
The result means that United will need to get through a play-off tie in February in order to reach the Europa League last-16.
There are eight potential opponents for United, all of who dropped out of the Champions League this week after finishing third in their group.
As well as Ajax, Barcelona and Juventus, United could also face Bayer Leverkusen, Red Bull Salzburg, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk and Sporting CP.
The Europa League play-off draw will take place on November 7 at midday.
United’s Europa League play-offs fixtures will take place on February 16 and 23, 2023.
