Malta will PAY YOU to visit, set to save UK summer holidays
The UK will announce its traffic light travel system and green list today, countries you will be able to travel to this summer without a quarantine period and/or limited restrictions.
Malta is expected to be on the UK’s green list and has confirmed it will pay people to visit this summer – in an attempt to make back the tourism cash they lost over Covid-19.
The Island usually brings in more than 2 million travelers a year and the new scheme – Incentives for Free Independent Travellers (FIT) – is hoping to bring them back.
Tourists can expect to receive a government subsidy depending on the duration of their stay, the star rating of their hotel, and where they go. The amount the government puts in will be matched by the hotels that sign up to the scheme with a max saving of 200 euros per person.
Why visit Malta?
The island relies heavily on tourism and is bursting with food, culture, and endless beaches. Visitors have dropped by 80 per cent in the last year, causing a massive shock to the island’s economy.
Malta is one of the first European countries to make tourism plans because it fared better with COVID cases than a lot of other countries.
How much will I get paid to holiday in Malta?
It depends on the type of hotel – but up to 200 euros is up for grabs per person.
Tourists staying in a five star hotels will get 100 euros off their stay – it will be matched by the government. And the same applies to three and four starrs – where you can save 100 euros and 175 euros respectively.
When does it start
Malta is expected to lift all travel restrictions on June 1st, so the scheme will begin then.
