There was a bit of an awkward moment during Lorraine Kelly’s interview with Anne Reid after the chat show host revealed the actor’s age.
Scottish presenter Lorraine chatted to veteran actress Anne on Tuesday’s episode of the ITV chat show, where they discussed Anne’s role in new drama series The Sixth Commandment.
The show is based on the chilling true story of the murder of Peter Farquahar and attempted murder of Ann Moore-Martin in 2015.
Anne plays the role of Ann in the BBC drama, the latest in her hugely impressive list of roles, from Valerie Barlow in Coronation Stret to Jean in Dinnerladies.
Having been acting since the 1950s, Anne’s age would naturally come up in conversation, but Lorraine told audiences watching that she had promised not to give out Anne’s age.
However she then turned around and said it, leading to anger from some watching from home.

Anne first laid on the self-deprecating humour on herself, joking she ‘looks like a 200-year-old lizard’ as Lorraine insisted she didn’t look her age.
Near the end of the interview, Lorraine said she ‘promised Ann I wouldn’t’ say her age, explaining: ‘I promised you I wouldn’t say what your age was, I promised you and I’m not going to.’
but then went on to add: ‘All I’m going to say is if you play bingo, two fat ladies.’
As even the most basic bingo player will know, two fat ladies refers to the number 88 – Anne’s age.

Anne didn’t exactly seem in on the joke, and while she didn’t say anything she simply stared at Lorraine quietly with her smile frozen on her face.
Viewers were quick to pick up on the awkward moment, with one writing: If looks could kill.
‘Not pleased you said her age and why would you?’ they added.
Another shared a gif of a character declaring: ‘You’re despicable,’ as though it were Anne’s reaction to the moment.

And as one put it: ‘Anne Reid didn’t want her age disclosing…. So why does #lorraine do ?? DISCLOSE HER AGE!!!’
Lorraine later doubled down, as she read out a tweet from a viewer who called Anne a ‘national treasure’ and said they couldn’t believe her age.
While reading it out, Lorraine first skipped over reading Anne’s age but then blurted out: ‘She’s 88!’
So much for promises!
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV
