Last words of knifed US Muslim boy were ‘Mum, I’m fine’

Wadea al-Fayoume was a 6-year-old American Muslim boy. He was stabbed to death by his landlord, and his mother seriousl injured, in a suspected hate crime.

The little boy has been laid to rest, with his uncle saying Wadea’s last words were “Mum, I’m fine”.

Hundreds turned out to pay their respects in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview.

Police say Wadea and his mum were attacked because he was Muslim.

The landlord, 71-year-old Joseph Czuba has been arrested. It’s believed he attacked them due to the Israel-Hamas war.

Wadea’s mother, 32-year-old Hanaan Shahin, was seriously injured in the attack and was unable to attend her son’s funeral as she is recovering in hospital.

One of his uncles, Mahmoud Yousef, said: “When he [Wadea] was stabbed his last words to his mum were, ‘Mum, I’m fine.’ You know what, he is fine. He’s in a better place.”
