PMQs Live – Kemi Badenoch to go head-to-head with Starmer
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is set to take on questions from leader of the opposition Kemi Badenoch today in the latest round of Prime Minister’s Questions.
Starmer is set to field questions on everything from the economy to defence and foreign aid after a wild and unprecedented week in global politics.
It’s the PM’s first PMQs session since meeting Donald Trump at the White House last week and since the rapid developments and upsets in Ukraine.
The PM’s plan to slash foreign aid to fund a spending increase for defence will come up.
Left-wing Labour MPs are likely to bring it up and demand an explanation from the PM – they see the slashing of aid as harming Britain’s reputation on the global stage.
There are no Reform UK MPs listed for a question, but there is set to be a rare interjection from former deputy prime minister Oliver Dowden.
Ex-Labour MP Rosie Duffield, who quit with furious criticism of Sir Keir, is also listed to ask a question, which may prove fiery.
Starmer in firing line over aid budget cuts
A cross-party committee of MPs wrote to the Prime Minister about their “deep concern” over the decision.
Sarah Champion, chairwoman of the International Development Committee, said the “brutal” cut to funds “risks undermining our soft power, as well as years of progress in areas such as healthcare, education, clean water and sustainable development”.
